Happierleads is fully GDPR compliant. We identify both companies and individual visitors, depending on the region. In GDPR regions, we identify company-level data based on IP addresses. Outside the GDPR regions (the US and 170+ other countries), we can also identify the exact visitor through our opt-in partnership network. In the EU and EEA we never identify the individual visitor: you see the company, plus one suggested contact at that company.

The Happierleads script sets no cookies. It keeps a few first-party values in the browser's local storage (the only persistent one is an opaque visitor-record id, hl_lead_id) and session storage. Privacy rules such as GDPR, PECR and ePrivacy treat browser storage like cookies, so list Happierleads in your cookie policy under your analytics / marketing category.

We keep your leads and visitor data for as long as your account is active, so your full history is always there. When you close your account, or at any time, you can have the data deleted by emailing privacy@happierleads.com. Session recordings are kept for 90 days.

Answers to the questions legal and privacy teams ask

Does the script set a cookie or identifier on our site?

No cookie. The script stores first-party housekeeping values in the browser only: in local storage hl_lead_id (an opaque id of the visitor record, or not_found, with no expiry beyond the visitor clearing their storage), hl_last_tracking_time, hl_full_mode_pages, hl_basic_tracking_sent and hl_last_sent_email; in session storage, cleared when the tab closes, hl_rec_cfg, hl_ad and hl_pcap_*. No name, email or phone number is ever stored in the browser. The script only reads existing advertising cookies such as _fbp to measure ad clicks; it never sets them.

Is data from our visitors used for advertising?

No. The paragraphs in our privacy policy about 24 months of cookie data and targeted advertising describe happierleads.com, our own website. Data from your visitors is never used for advertising.

Do you resell our data, or add our visitors to a database used for other customers?

No. We do not resell, share or license your data. Your visitors and leads are processed for your workspace only and are not used to build data for other customers or for advertising.

Where is our data stored? Is anything processed in China?

Our production infrastructure runs in data centres in the United Kingdom, Germany and France. No visitor data is stored or processed in China, and none of our sub-processors is based in or processes data in China.

Where do we control which countries and pages are tracked? Can we identify people in one country and companies in another?

We identify the exact person in 174 countries, the US and the UK included, and the company only in the other 49 (EU and EEA). Each website has two switches under Website Settings → Visitor tracking: "Identify exact visitors" off means company-level only for the whole website, in every country; "Identify companies with suggested contacts" off means no company-level leads. There is no per-country person-level switch. Which countries create leads at all is decided by a Country rule in Qualify (Only include or Exclude), and which pages by Exclude pages.

Do we have session recording? Can it be switched on without our action?

Session recordings are off unless the account owner buys the Session Recordings add-on and switches it on for that website. Both are your own actions in the dashboard; nothing on our side turns it on. The script asks session-recordings.happierleads.com once per visit whether recording is on, which is why that request exists even when the answer is off.
